At the Finnish Lure-Coursing Championships in Jyväskylä in 2005, we were competing with Ameena, who did an impressing headfirst lunge into the adjacent oat field. We weren't particularly successful that day, but wandering around the area we did have an interesting conversation with Pirjo Puttonen. A 100% Iranian descent litter had recently been born in Sweden, and Pirjo hoped to bring a bitch pup to Finland. After Sanja and I had thought about this while walking Ameena, we returned to Pirjo and made a very preliminary puppy booking.

Dar el Hindiyas Amira did come to Finland, to live in the same household as her intended mate. Bericas Bedar Majan, a k a Nils, was also of exotic origin and hailed from Oman. Nils had impressed us greatly with his temperament and running ability, so we awaited the possible offspring of this couple with interest.

In May 2009 Nils and Amira's litter was born - a litter with perhaps the most astonishing color scheme in Finnish Saluki history. Apart from the blacks and partis we had predicted, there was also mousy grey and two shades of brindle. The pups were very strong and quite big, with an excellent appetite.

The litter's brindle grizzle bitch, who, to maximize adorability, sported a white heart on her forehead, caught our eye and we made our choice on our first visit. During that visit the pups'  proud sire greeted Sanja with a partciularly friendly smile. As this was to be the S-litter, I suggested our pup be named Suspiria. I had been listening to a lot of music from Dario Argento's movies and particularly liked the theme of Suspiria, and thought it a very beautiful word as well.

Suspiria, nicknamed Salma, moved to live with Minja Viitamäki and her family, where she has an energetic new friend, the young 100% Syrian descent Qashani Kahilah Hama. ~ Hyde
